Consider the Complication

Tension. Tension. Tension. It's all about the tension!

Think complication, dilemma, problem, conflict... It's a MUST to write a good story!

It has to be something your character desperately wants, needs or is working for.

Main character (MC) needs to try to solve the problem, but will not succeed. Usually, there are two to three attempts before it is actually solved.

Make sure your MC solves the problem. They need to come up with the solution and solve the problem themselves.

How do they change? What have they learnt at the end of the story? This might not be stated, but you need to know and often the reader will know, too.
